Description

Kailua Hongwanji Mission, located at 268A Ku’ulei Road, Kailua, Hawaii, was purchased in 1959 by the Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin. The Mission was formally established in 1968.

The original building, constructed in the 1940’s was aging and also inaccessible to the handicapped. It became necessary for the Mission to look at rebuilding or to abandon the only Honpa Hongwanji Buddhist temple in Windward Oahu.

The membership fundraised and were able to come up with the financing required to build their new temple.

The new facilities is constructed to be accessible and multi-functional to be used for religious services and for activities for the community.
